Intro
Rooted Zen, have you heard of them? Honestly at this point if you haven't tried their work or heard their name what are you doing with yourself? Harvest after harvest they provide consistent top quality cannabis that continues to set them apart from the majority of other Oklahoma growers, in a short time they became one of the few growers we specifically look for when shopping around. Oh and did we mention they just opened a new dispensary partnered with Likewise? Quality meets quality.
Experience
Just like we stated above Rooted Zen’s LIP SMACKER speaks to their consistent quality, excellent bag appeal, trichome covered with hues of greens, purples and violets. I would also mention that it looks hand trimmed which is definitely a preference for us (machine trimmed flower destroys a good portion of the trichomes on the outside of the cannabis). The smell of this specific strain was sweet, herbal, and fruity, with slight piney undertones. It was reminiscent of floral fruit candy if that makes any sense.
Something we do a little different at The Medicated Okies is actually looking at the flower with a macro lens, this allows us to see a lot of detail people would miss when just looking with the naked eye. The “Macro test” on this flower showed quite a few intact trichome heads on the outside of the flower, which is not always the case for cured cannabis. This is a really good sign! The technique we use allows us to see how carefully the bud has been handled from trimming all the way to the budtender putting it in a container.
When breaking this flower down I noticed it was a little dryer and more crumbly, but was still slightly sticky. The moisture content was definitely on the lower side at this point in its cure. Upon consumption my taste buds were greeted with a sweet but not overwhelming fruity/floral/herbal flavor, it did not stick around on my palette for very long after initial intake. The effects on the other hand were very prominent, strong onset heaviness, full body relaxation, and an immediate curb to my anxious overthinking mind. This strain clearly leans more on the Indica side. For me this is absolutely ideal, I tend to resonant more towards relaxing less cerebral buzzy highs. I want something that will help me wind down not wind up and I found this helped me remove myself from a stressed mindset, to one that allowed me to think more freely and worry less about miniscule things.
Recommendations
This Lip Smacker is a no brainer for someone who is looking for a more relaxing heavier sedative effect. Not racey or buzzy in the slightest but more controlled, perfect for someone who is dealing with anxiety, depression, or body pains. I personally wouldn't recommend consuming this earlier in the day because with the heavier effects comes that onset tiredness and lack of energy. This is preferred for use later in the day when you are ready to wind down and relax whether that be playing games with friends, spending time with family, or just watching Netflix.
Final Thoughts
Once again Rooted Zen continues to bring the heat to the community, I found myself enjoying this strain more than the majority of what I have consumed recently, it really helped me fight my anxiety instead of exacerbating it, as well as pushing myself into a more positive mindset even while caring for an extremely sick family pet who is on the verge of passing. Without strains like this life would be that much harder. The only thing I think holding this strain back was the fact it was a little dry but that's not a big complaint, all in all this is still something I would absolutely suggest Oklahoma patients try. Well done Rooted Zen!
